Episode 1 Here we go! Show notes

Welcome to Healthy Knitting! Thank you for joining me.

My name is Rosie and I live in upstate New York. I would like to thank Tammy of the Proverbial Knitter Podcast  for her help in setting me up and also Kristen Carlson for designing my website.

Well it is an interesting process preparing for a podcast. This is when I realized how out of control my knitting really is. There is more I didn’t show you, but maybe I will later.

New and Good:  Vacation to Bali! Loved it

On and off the needles:

Montego Bay Shawl by Amy Singer from Interweave Knits Summer 2007 made with Blue Heron Yarns – Beaded Rayon, 525 yds in a DK weight knit on size 10 needles. I’ve had this yarn forever and I’m glad it is finally knitted.

Color Affection shawl by Veera Välimäki download available on Ravelry made with Madeline Tosh – Tosh Merino Light in Sand Dune, Stephen Love, and Mare knit on size 5 needles. Love it!

Rock Island shawl by Jared Flood download available on Ravelry made with Rowan- Rowan Fine Lace in era plum 927 on size 6 needles. Love it!

Languishing and soon back in active:

Stella jacket by Kristeen Griffin-Grimes from French Girl Knits made with Valley Yarns from Webs in Organic Merino Mill Ends and Mill End silk kid haze-like yarn in natural on sizes 10 and then 9.  I guess my gauge changed over the year it’s taken to do another sleeve.

Brigid Jacket by Courtney Kelly from Vintage Modern Knits made with Louisa Harding Thistle in Apple Green 6 on size 8 needles. All I need to do is one sleeve, add buttons and block! So far two years in the making. Really things get done when I actually knit them.

Jaywalker socks by Grumperina free pattern on Ravelry made with Zitron Trekking XXL on size 2.25mm needles.  Many mods here and I’m not sure what I did.

Really?:

Plain Vanilla Socks by Keri McKiernan free pattern on Ravelry. Great top-down basic sock. Dropped some stitches and didn’t notice until after one washing!

Spinning: – Llama /Angora roving from Northern Vermont Llama Company 802-644-2257 bought at NYSW in Rhinebeck, NY last year. Finished gray two ply and next up is the taupe color to be spun the same for some colorwork on a Majacraft Rose Wheel.

Tips to share:

Baking soda shampoo from Knit Spin Farm Podcast

http://knitspinfarm.blogspot.com/2013/07/episode-52-is-52ish.html

Vinegar face wash –

one gallon of distilled water (not fluoridated) – take out 8 Tablespoons of the water and then add 8 Tablespoons of vinegar. It makes a lot but I couldn’t find a smaller amount of distilled water. If you want to boil your water, you can just use a 1/15 ratio of vinegar to water. Wash twice a day with organic cotton pads.

Recipe of the week:   Faux Ice Cream

You need a food processor – not a blender

10-12 ounces of organic frozen fruit

1 ripe avocado

1-2 Tbs. water or juice

Chop frozen fruit until in small pieces. Add avocado and blend again. If it is too hard, add a small amount of water or juice to get the fruit to move again. Enjoy!

I love organic strawberries or an organic berry mix. You can add lemon zest or orange zest. Please make sure you wash the skins even if they are organic!  I’d love to hear what you use to turn this base into your favorite.

Creativity is key when making up recipes. You will find most of my recipes are a base and then I just add what is in season and looks good. I barely shop with a list in mind unless it is a staple item. You will always find olive oil, garlic, lemons and onions in my house. I eat them every day. No kidding.

Thanks for tuning in!

See you next time on Healthy Knitting
